Health Research Campaign

The Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) was funded to conduct a community outreach campaign for the National Institutes of Health All of Us Research Program. The existing marketing collateral, provided by the National Institutes of Health, was not reflective of DREF’s targeted segment. I acted as their marketing department, providing: videos, marketing collateral, and social media management.

RESEARCH MATTERS: CREATING POSSIBILITIES FOR ALL OF US

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. established the Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) as a public charity supporting scholastic achievement, public service programs, and research initiatives focused upon African American women.

DREF was funded by the National Institutes of Health All of Us Research Program to conduct a community outreach campaign, in collaboration with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and National Council of Negro Women.

The All of Us Initiative is a historic effort to gather data from one million or more people living in the United States to accelerate research and improve health.

THE PROBLEM:

The National Institutes of Health All of Us Research Program had a library of marketing collateral templates, however they were not representative of DREF’s targeted segments.

Additionally, there weren’t templates for marketing opportunities, that are unique to African Americans. In order for this campaign to be impactful, DREF needed their own marketing department.

THE SOLUTION:

I was hired to provide ongoing marketing services. This included: designing marketing collateral and presentations, social media management, and contributing ideas for special campaigns throughout the year.

The biggest challenge facing this campaign, was finding quality stock photography that was representative of African Americans in diverse segments. I initially overcame this by curating a library of photos of friends and family. As the campaign progressed, we were able to capture photography at community outreach events.

The campaign was successful. The grant was renewed for another year!
